Fire Compartments can be achieved by using tested Fire Rated solutions. The building should be suitably compartmentalized to confine smoke and fire in a specified area and not allowed to spread.
Partitions are used to separate buildings, enclose compartments and build a fire barrier; fire partition must satisfy relevant criteria i.e.
- Integrity
- Insulation
- Stability (load bearing)
The Fire rating limits can be from 30 minutes to 240 minutes based on need and purpose.
Wall boards are generally used in fire rated partitions. The tested fire rating of entire system (not only boards) is the critical criteria that has to be applied in Fire rated wall / partitions
Fire rated partitions are constructed with steel frames of appropriate thickness, width and height as per partitions / wall requirements. Wall boards like Promat Fire Rated boards / Reinforced Magnesium oxide boards, Fire rated Gypsum boards are used on both sides of steel frames and are fixed and jointed as per tested system. Infills like Rock wool/glass wool are used for installation. Thickness of partitions / walls will depend on height of partition, type of wall, boards tested as per system.
Fire rated partitions can be
- Full height
- Half height with fire rated glass
- Fire rated doors
- Blast resistance doors etc.
